After having spent a considerable amount of time looking into various services, here are a couple of national services I would recommend you look into if you are looking for a Nanny, Baby Sitter, Au-Pair, or even a Pet Sitter.
SITTER CITY
SitterCity.com is potentially a great resource for finding the perfect nanny, au-pair, baby sitter or other child care provider (they can even find help with senior care and pet sitting!) as they are the largest nationwide online service, and the subscription is monthly rather than for a long term commitment. I like that you can scan through their database and look at the available potential hires in your neighborhood before signing up. I also like that they can help facilitate background checks on any potential hires. Take a spin and see if they have enough local talent to make it worth your time, and remember that as a large national service, they have more people coming online every day. Finally, they provide a good amount of information on each person, including a resume, certifications, hobbies, age, photograph and much more. They have also been reviewed (favorably) by many media services (online and broadcast) such as ABC, NBC, CNN, Martha Stewart and The Wall Street Journal to name a few.
Sitter City offers two types of plans, an annual plan ($95.88) or a monthly plan of $39.99 set up fee and $9.99 month. Both are a pretty good deal.

NANNIES 4 HIRE
Another national company you may consider using is Nannies4Hire.com which is in my opinion a great service and can be structured depending on your needs. They offer background checks and assistance contracting potential candidates with the higher tier subscriptions that they offer. You can also get started with a free nanny search which should return good results in your area. The information that you can browse without registering is quite good so you can make an informed decision before subscribing. Some of the information that you can find includes their schedule availability, If they have a drivers license, any criminal record, years of experience, salary expectations, etc. They also have received a very favorable review from TV’s Dr Phil and TLC channel. Their subscription service starts at $129 for a 30 day package (Gold Package). I would recommend the Platinum Package as it is only $169, covers 60 days and includes criminal background checks.
